Key West is full of colorful characters. Most locals will recognize this motorcycle and its barefoot rider. I like to break rules with photography so I shot this straight at the sunlight glaring off the all-chrome engine.

I usually shoot most of my photographs in early morning or late afternoon light. It was a hot, sultry day. The sky was overcast and the winds were flat calm. The mid-day light was strange, and gave a look I have not since been able to replicate. I used it to shoot this series of houseboat photographs.

I was asked by a friend to photograph his favorite restaurant. They serve great food, but it is not exactly photogenic. It became a real challenge; I lost count of the number of times I tried to capture it. It took that brief moment between the end of a thunderstorm and re-emerging sun to get it just right

This lighthouse is the most highly photographed in Florida. The challenge to me was to photograph it from a different angle and put my own style on it. The beach looks empty and idyllic. In reality, it was swarmed by mosquitoes. I paid for this photo with blood.

When I look at this photo it reminds me of why I live in the Florida Keys. It is taken from one of my favorite places, a place I go to get away from the real world.

I was recovering from back surgery and walked past this spot every day at sunrise. It was a shot I loved and wanted to capture for weeks, but I did not have the strength to carry my camera bag. On my first morning with my camera I caught it just the way I wanted.

I often spent hours scouting locations for the perfect light and reflections. This photo, I have to admit, I was on the beach enjoying a glass of wine at sunset and suddenly realized this was the perfect shot.

This rusty old ship is now one of Key West’s leading attractions. On May 27th 2009 she was intentionally sunk to form an artificial reef, and became one of the world’s top dive sites. I was lucky the weather was perfect; there were no second chances to photograph this ship afloat.

I never shoot in a studio; I prefer to get that look in nature by using different camera and flash techniques. This series of orchids were shot in daylight in a friend’s backyard.  I love to capture photography details that are easily missed by the human eye.
